Commercial banks likely to launch equity investment in H1Published: 12 Feb 2009 22:34:21 PSTFeb. 12, 2009 (China Knowledge) – China’s banking regulator, the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), is weighing new regulations to allow the domestic commercial banks to launch equity investment in the first half of this year, the Security Times reported. The CBRC will launch the pilot program in the country’s Big Four commercial banks, namely Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC)<601398><1398>, Bank of China(BOC)<601988><3988>, China Construction Bank Corp (CCB)<601939><939>, and Agricultural Bank of China (ABC).Under the current rules, the commercial banks in China are not allowed to participate in equity investment directly. Those lenders have to set up a subsidiary for the equity investment. The new policy on equity investment is part of the government’s efforts to bolster investment amid the global financial crisis. Dinners in China mean more than mere entertainmentPublished: 18 Mar 2009 00:19:11 PSTBy David LindleyPresident, EXIM LLCI like to think that courtesy is more about your attitude than what you know. Even if you don?t get all the nuances exactly right, or make mistakes, a kind spirit and willingness to try something new will always serve you well as a gracious guest during any business dinner in China. For many westerners, it is hard to slow down for the longer style of customer entertainment in China. The notion of a ?power breakfast? or ?working lunch? is not common here. Dinner is a place where business is discussed, but it is typically secondary to the enjoyment of the meal and getting to know each other better. I have found these meals have a way of slowing things down and helping to decompress from a busy day of work in the factory. A dinner with the factory management can often distill what really happened that day, as well as what needs to happen later in your relationship. A lot of times, you may learn business details at dinner that you never find out in the factory office. It’s a place where you can measure each other in a different way. Often, for example, you may meet new people who are friends of the factory or relatives running other factories that are an important part of your local area?s production network of suppliers who can help you later on.Remember your hosts are probably just as worried as you are about doing something discourteous. If you are at ease during dinner, it will go long way to helping your host become more comfortable too.Whether you are just getting acquainted, working to together on a production run or celebrating an achievement, building a deeper personal bond at dinner will always benefit you and your business associates.Depending on what region of the country you are in, and how formal the dinner arrangements are, you will find considerable variety in what to do at dinner. Still, you can expect to find a few common formalities and courtesies that are commonly observed. When going to the restaurant, you will often find yourself in a private dining room and you will not be seated in the general serving area. This is a show of respect for you as a guest. As a guest, you may be asked to sit prominently at the table in the so-called ?honor seat.? Usually, this seat is facing the door of the dining room. Your back will be to the wall or window of the room as a show of courtesy and respect.Sometimes, you might note that one of the napkins is folded differently than the others; this designates who is paying for the dinner. Napkins will typically be placed beneath your plate and then draped onto your lap from the table.Generally, the courses are: cold dishes, followed by the hot soups, vegetables, meat and fish dishes, followed by rice or noodles if more food is desired. Finally, a fruit selection might be served at the end of the meal. At the start of each course, as the guest, everyone will be waiting for you to taste something before others begin, so don?t be shy.It is more polite to try a little bit of everything, even in small portions. If you find something you do not like, just leave it on your plate and move on to what you do like. You get extra points for using your more adventurous tastes when dining out, and, typically, there are more good surprises than bad.Toasting with drinks can be a random free-for-all, or it can be a very formal circle of toasting where the guest will toast those at the table working alternately from right to left. Toasting may also move around the table where you are toasted by your host and then shortly after you will toast that person back before moving on to the next person. After the toast, especially if you have finished your drink in the toast, you may see your host gesturinglithium batteries 齿轮箱 lightning arrester 搅拌机 减速机 クレジットカード 現金化 競馬新聞

Chinese culture – The Dragon Boat FestivalPublished: 08 May 2009 09:41:56 PSTThe Dragon Boat Festival, the 5th day of the 5th lunar month, has had a history of more than 2,000 years. It is usually at the end of May or in June in the Gregorian calendar. There are many legends about the evolution of the festival, the most popular of which is in commemoration of Qu Yuan (340-278 BC). Qu Yuan was minister of the State of Chu and one of China’s earliest poets. In face of great pressure from the powerful Qin State, he advocated enriching the country and strengthening its military forces so as to fight against the Qin. However, he was opposed by aristocrats headed by Zi Lan, and later deposed and exiled by King Huai. In his exiled days, he still cared much for his country and people and composed immortal poems including Li Sao (The Lament), Tian Wen (Heavenly Questions) and Jiu Ge (Nine Songs), which had far-reaching influences. In 278 BC, he heard the news that Qin troops had finally conquered Chu’s capital, so he finished his last piece Huai Sha (Embracing Sand) and plunged himself into the Miluo River, clasping his arms to a large stone. The day happened to be the 5th of the 5th month in the Chinese lunar calendar. After his death, the people of Chu crowded to the bank of the river to pay their respects to him. The fishermen sailed their boats up and down the river to look for his body. People threw into the water zongzi (pyramid-shaped glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in reed or bamboo leaves) and eggs to divert possible fish or shrimp from attacking his body. An old doctor poured a jug of reaglar wine (Chinese liquor seasoned with realgar) into the water, hoping to turn all aquatic beasts drunk. That’s why people later followed the customs such as dragon boat racing, eating zongzi and drinking realgar wine on that day. Dragon boat racing is an indispensable part of the festival, held all over the country. As the gun is fired, people will see racers in dragon-shaped canoes pulling the oars harmoniously and hurriedly, accompanied by rapid drums, speeding toward their destination. Folk tales say the game originates from the activities of seeking Qu Yuan’s body, but experts, after painstaking and meticulous research, conclude that dragon boat racing is a semi-religious, semi-entertaining program from the Warring States Period (475-221 BC). In the following thousands of years, the game spread to Japan, Vietnam and Britain as well as China’s Taiwan and Hong Kong. Now dragon boat racing has developed into an aquatic sports item which features both Chinese tradition and modern sporting spirit. In 1980, it was listed into the state sports competition programs and has since been held every year. The award is called ”Qu Yuan Cup.”Zongzi is an essential food of the Dragon Boat Festival. It is said that people ate them in the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC). In early times, it was only glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in reed or other plant leaves and tied with colored thread, but now the fillings are more diversified, including jujube and bean paste, fresh meat, and ham and egg yolk. If time permits, people will soak glutinous rice, wash reed leaves and wrap up zongzi themselves. Otherwise, they will go to shops to buy whatever stuff they want. The custom of eating zongzi is now popular in North and South Korea, Japan and Southeast Asian nations. On Dragon Boat Festival, parents also need to dress their children up with a perfume pouch. They first sew little bags with colorful silk cloth, then fill the bags with perfumes or herbal medicines, and finally string them with silk threads. The perfume pouch will be hung around the neck or tied to the front of a garment as an ornament. They are said to be able to ward off evil.furniture legs 净化工作台 电话会议 搅拌机 クレジット 現金化 キャバクラ 求人 カード 現金化

Domain names with Chinese characteristicsPublished: 17 Nov 2009 10:02:01 PSTBy Zhao Qian Now that the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has allowed the use of Chinese characters in domain names, chances to make a quick yuan are just a click away. The China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) began submitting requests to ICANN for domain names with the suffix ".中国"(China) in Chinese characters Monday.Any individuals, institutions and companies can register the domain names in Chinese, with the cost ranging from 200 yuan ($29.31) to 400 yuan annually, and they are granted to use these domain names for up to 10 years."Those Chinese domain names can be used in 2010 by the public, after a series of technical tests,"Wang Dong, an advisor to the CNNIC, said Tuesday."This move will open up the Internet to a whole new generation of older users who cannot read English,"Zhang Gang, an analyst from Analysys International, a company that consults on technology, media and telecom industries, said Tuesday."Thousands of small- and medium-sized companies whose e-commerce business is concentrated in China will benefit a lot through registering Chinese domain names,"Zhang said, adding that some companies who offer domain name registration services will have huge business potentials."This move will increase China’s influence in the international Internet industry,"Wang of CNNIC said."The move could also improve China’s Internet ability to self-regulate,"Wang added.Since most foreigners cannot type characters, however, there is not much of a possibility that the domain names will get hits abroad, Zhang said.On the day that the CNNIC submitted requests to the ICANN, organizations and individuals rushed to register Chinese domain names.Even some celebrities’ names, like Jay Chou, a famous pop star, have already been registered.More than 90 percent of government departments, over 95 percent of media websites, no less than 90 percent of major universities, and more than 50 percent of the top 100 Chinese companies have already registered Chinese domain names, according to data on CNNIC’s website. And Wang of CNNIC said that some companies who offer domain name registration services will stockpile domain names with high commercial value, and then sell them later at a premium.Zhang of Analysys International said that monitoring of domain name registration was necessary to prevent copyright infringement.Wang commented that many related regulations still have not been formulated. Auto industry hoping for tax cut extensionPublished: 08 Sep 2009 10:02:01 PSTBy Chen XiaominEven though auto sales surged to 1.14 million units in August, carmakers are worried about a possible slip if government-enacted stimulus measures and favorable policies are scaled back.Figures from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) show nationwide auto sales up 4.71 percent from July and 81.68 percent from 629,000 unit last August, the lowest in 2008.This is the sixth month in a row when the country’s auto sales have topped 1.1 million. And a total of 8.33 million cars, up 29.18 percent year-on-year, have been sold from January to August.Dong Yang, CAAM’s executive deputy director, attributed the booming market to Beijing’s stimulus measures, especially sales tax cuts, and strongly recommended the government maintain these favorable measures to keep sales rising.Growth in car sales slowed to single-digits in 2008 as a weak economy dented automobile demand. The market began to recover in February this year reversing January’s negative 14.35 percent growth thanks to the government’s policy support. The government halved sales tax for 1.6-liter and below cars in February. The policy will expire in December. Sales of the cars increased 55.5 percent in the first eight months, 18.7 percentage points higher than the growth rate of passenger cars.Sales of low emission cars accounted for 70 percent of total passenger car sales during the same period, up 9 percentage points.A 10 percent sales tax is levied on all other cars."I recommend differential taxes levied in accordance with emissions–less on low emission car and higher on high emission ones," said Dong.Other industry insiders also expressed their hopes for continuance of the policy.Zhang Xiaoyu, director of the Society of Automotive Engineers of China, told a group of reporters at the 2009 International Forum on China’s Auto Industry Development over the weekend that he hoped the policy could last for three years.Xu Changming, an official with the State Information Center, said at the forum, it would be better if the government continue the policy until the economy recovers considering the auto industry’s significant contribution to GDP growth in the first half of the year.CAAM’s Dong projected 11 million auto sales for the whole year, adding 10 million would be sold till October.Dong also refuted the idea of overcapacity in the industry, saying output that is 30 to 35 percent higher is normal for a market with a 20 percent annual growth rate.
